Microsoft Excel Tutorial: How to Easily Remove Duplicates in Excel.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! With only 26 days left until the release of Excel 2007 on January 30th, 2007, I want to show you one of the exciting new features in this version. Today, on this 2007 Thursday, I'll be demonstrating how to easily remove duplicates in Excel 2007.

We all know the struggle of dealing with large lists or databases and trying to identify unique values in a specific column. Well, Excel 2007 has made this task much simpler. In this video, I have a list of invoices with dates, customers, and sales. I want to find out who the unique customers are in this list.

To do this, we will go to the Data ribbon and select the "Remove Duplicates" option. A new window will appear where we can choose which column to look for duplicates in. In this case, I'll select the "Customer" column and click OK. In just a few seconds, Excel has removed the 10 duplicate values, leaving us with only 9 unique customers.

However, I must warn you that this function is quite destructive. The duplicate rows are permanently deleted, so it's important to make a copy of your data set before using this feature. You can always use the "Undo" function (Ctrl+Z) to bring back the deleted rows, but it's always better to be safe than sorry. So, make it a habit to create a copy of your data set before using the "Remove Duplicates" feature.
