Hamas has launched a barrage of more than a dozen rockets at the Israeli port town of Ashkelon, stating the attack was retaliation for Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.

The group had warned residents to leave the town by 5pm Israel time. Air raid sirens sounded across a number of settlements in the areas of southern Israel bordering Gaza as the projectiles arced over the border.

The IDF is responding with airstrikes to the Ashkelon attacks.
